Part 1 of the Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV update is out now, and to celebrate, developer Polyphony Digital has teamed up with Sony to produce a new limited-edition DualSense controller celebrating the racing sim. The controller is slated for launch on December 10th, and its pre-orders will go live on October 22nd. The controller is priced at $84.99 and has been designed to celebrate the legacy of the Gran Turismo franchise and its history with PlayStation.
“Thirty years ago, Gran Turismo began with a vision to share the beauty and joy of the automobile. This commemorative controller celebrates the journey we have shared together, and I am deeply grateful to everyone whose passion continues to inspire us,” said Polyphony Digital’s CEO, Kazunori Yamauchi.
The visual style of the Gran Turismo Limited Edition DualSense controller pays homage to racing cars, featuring plenty of decals alongside vertical racing stripes right in the middle. These are paired with carbon-fibre-style front plates, evoking the image of a high-performance car.
As for the update, Polyphony first announced it in September, confirming that it would be released in two parts. The second part is slated for release in December, and while the studio hasn’t confirmed an exact release date, it will likely come out around the same time as the DualSense controller.
Part one of the update has brought in a host of new cars, including the Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo, the Ferrari F355 Berlinetta ’94, the Honda Civic Si Group A version ’87, and the Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Evo ’26, among others. Check out its trailer for more details. Part two isn’t going to be a slouch either, with Polyphony Digital confirming that it will bring six more cars, a Family mode, and a host of other additions and improvements. Together, the two updates will add a total of 12 new cars to Gran Turismo 7.
Yamauchi, who also serves as producer on Gran Turismo 7, recently spoke about how the racing game has continued to see its player base grow, which in turn has led the development team to work on more updates, bringing in a host of new content to the game like new cars and tracks in the process.
“Gran Turismo 7 is still continuing to sell very well, but we had not expected this from the beginning. We continue to provide additional content and game modes because there is this user base that is still continuing to grow.”
His words do seem to have some merit, since Polyphony Digital hasn’t really slowed down on its release cadence for Gran Turismo 7. Just a couple of months ago, we saw the release of four new cars and three world circuits for the game. Before that, we saw new hypercars as well as the addition of the Le Mans racing event.
Gran Turismo 7 is available on PS5 and is playable with PlayStation VR2. For more details, check out our look back at the game from last year, where we assessed whether it is still a must-play racer.
