Gears of War: E-Day Trailer Offers a Tragic Look at Emergence Day’s Casualties

Any long-time Gears of War fan will remember the first game’s launch trailer, hauntingly set to Gary Jules’ cover of “Mad World.” The Coalition pays some homage with Gears of War: E-Day’s launch trailer, except it’s a rendition of “Adagio for Strings” by the game’s composer, Adam Lastiwka.

The imagery is no less harrowing. Survivors in Kalona huddle underground in a subway station while Dom and Marcus fight Locust on the surface. All their effort seems to be for nought, however, as a massive E-Hole forms in the ground and ends up sinking the train station alongside all the people within it.

If that wasn’t bad enough, a massive Corpser emerges from the remains. It brings to mind the saying from the first Gears about the “lucky ones” dying on Emergence Day, because they wouldn’t have to witness the years of horror brought about by the Locust War.

Gears of War: E-Day launches on October 6th for Xbox Series X/S and PC. Thus far, we’ve seen extensive footage of battles in Kalona, including the much bigger Boomers and the new Locust leader, Svore Vraahk, who has his own Scorched Legion. For more details on the campaign and how new additions like low cover and sliding fundamentally change the gameplay, check out our preview.
