Cold Iron Studios’ Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 will release this Summer for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, following no shortage of leaks over the years. IGN First’s reveal trailer is about what you’d expect – a squad of Colonial Marines called in to deal with a Xenomorph outbreak on a hostile planet. The key difference is that a fourth member joins the fray.
This is good news for fans of the original, since it was limited to only three players in a squad. Of course, there’s plenty more to look forward to, from the return of classic Xenomorph types (and The Queen) to the new Specialist class, which can utilize abilities from the others for unique loadouts.
The other classes have their own tactical abilities and playstyles, alongside tools such as pyro, electric ammo, stun batons, cryo mines, and more. Don’t relax because there’s a fourth team member either, because several new Xenomorphs are joining the fray, especially in the new Horde maps, which promise “escalating waves” of enemies in return for more valuable rewards. There’s also full cross-play at launch, per IGN.
Of course, plenty more remains to be revealed, including a reported campaign that supports two players and apparently lasts for 8 to 12 hours. We’re also curious about Annihilation, which is supposedly a new “spin” on the traditional Horde Mode. Here’s hoping it isn’t just another extraction shooter mode.
