Seemingly in response to leaks that have begun to emerge, IO Interactive has released the first 13 minutes of 007 First Light. It encompasses part of the first mission with Bond in the Royal Navy on a clandestine operation. Things quickly go sideways, however, as the choppers are shot down and he’s apparently the only survivor.
Shot down by who? An unidentified heavily armed force that’s very interested in the camp on the other side of the mountain, which Bond only learns about thanks to contact by MI6. The opening familiarizes players with the game’s basic mechanics, from dashing to cover to crouching in tall grass to avoid detection. Upon tumbling off a cliff-side, he finds the camp, which turns out to be part of a massive retrieval operation that MI6 headed up.
What they were retrieving is “classified”, and it’s unknown what this mysterious force wants with it. Bond quickly finds a parka to warm up – and even gets a chance to flex his Montenegrin to fool a soldier – before the mission begins properly. All in all, it’s a great teaser, showcasing just how Bond came into contact with MI6.
Of course, we won’t have to wait much longer to go hands-on since 007 First Light launches on May 27th (May 26th if you own the Deluxe Edition) for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Check out our feature for all the latest details or the launch trailer.
