While it didn’t exactly launch with the most content, the sky’s the limit for SCREEN JUICE’s Morbid Metal, an intriguing combination of character action game and rogue-lite. Thankfully, early access players won’t have to wait too long for new content, according to the recently-revealed roadmap. It kicks off on May 21st, which adds new sub-biomes and an “enemy systems” update.
“Strengthening the core experience and improving accessibility” is the goal here, but the next update, due in early Summer, is more significant. It adds new temporary and permanent upgrades alongside new “aura farming” systems. The combo systems are also due to receive an update.
The third major update arrives in late Summer and will add minigames, new paths in the Void (which could be new areas or systems), and a new hero, bringing the playable total to four.
As for Fall and beyond, there will be expanded lore and new cinematics, hopefully to flesh out the admittedly sparse story. You can also just expect more of everything else – enemies, bosses, and loot. Whether that means new biomes to accompany these new threats remains to be seen.
Of course, all dates and content are subject to change, and you should expect other updates in between, but it’s clear that development has a ways to go before 1.0.
Morbid Metal is currently available for PC. You can check out our early access review, where we praised the foundations and the Returnal-like level design.
