Despite taking place over 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima, there’s still some hope of a connection to its upcoming sequel, Ghost of Yōtei. Sucker Punch Productions confirmed that Jin Sakai doesn’t appear in the latter, and in a new interview with MinnMax, co-director Nate Fox revealed that both endings of Tsushima are valid.
“It’s 300 years-plus later. Both endings are valid,” said Fox, when asked which Yōtei’s story unfolds in. Will anyone reference Tsushima’s events? Is Atsu, the new protagonist, related to Jin Sakai? Has she even heard of him? “No,” to all of the above.
What is interesting is Fox’s expression during a comment about how Jin isn’t much of a legend. Whether this means his actions actually had an impact, even in an unknown way, remains to be seen. For now, however, it’s best to treat this as Atsu’s story, as she scours the land of Ezo in search of the Yōtei Six.
Ghost of Yōtei launches on October 2nd for $69.99. Check out the latest video here, which showcases the gorgeous environments that players will traverse on their journey for revenge.
