Battlefield 6 Single-Player Campaign Gameplay and Details Revealed

While EA and Battlefield Studios have been revealing quite a few details about the multiplayer aspects of Battlefield 6, little has been revealed about its single-player content aside from a recent trailer showcasing the campaign. Now, however, more details are finally available courtesy of a comprehensive preview by IGN. In the preview, writer Mark Medina noted that the campaign will have a focus on offering gameplay variety while still featuring plenty of environmental destruction across large maps.

The campaign in Battlefield 6, much like its multiplayer modes, takes place in the relatively near future, using the year 2027 as its main setting. The player takes on the role of a member of an elite US Marines squad, named Dagger-13, each member of which falls in line with the playable classes in the multiplayer mode. Since the whole squad will be at play in the campaign, players will have to also make use of various squad-based commands, like calling squad members to use their class-based abilities.

The preview revolved around three of the campaign’s missions, each of which seemingly offered quite a bit of variety in terms of the kinds of objectives that players have to take on, and the kind of gameplay that is on offer. All three of the missions were pulled from different parts of the campaign, with Medina noting that the first one is the third mission in the full game’s campaign. The second one was mission five, and the third one was mission eight.

The first of the preview missions, dubbed Operation Gladius, started off with the player taking on the role of a tank’s gunner, with the primary objective being to take out enemy bunkers and troops. Shortly afterwards, the player, in the role of an Engineer, was tasked with escorting a tank through a town that has been ravaged by a war. Gameplay primarily revolved around taking on waves of enemy combatants while also repairing the tank to ensure that it makes it to the end. The mission’s finale had the player storming the town’s City Hall while also taking on more hordes of enemy combatants.

The second mission was described as being some more urban warfare, with the player being tasked with sweeping through an apartment building, using tools like a sledgehammer to breach through doors. After this leads into a tense shootout between apartment buildings, the player is then taken underground, and is forced to use more of their tools, like a thermal scope, to pick out enemies from amidst the debris. This then leads into a construction site where the mission culminates in the destruction of the Brooklyn Bridge – destruction through the player has to fight through in order to disable some transmitters.

The third mission presented the player with an open map that encouraged some more experimentation and exploration. The mission also allowed the player to drive around the map in a vehicle, with a more freeform opening objective of taking out some SAM sites around the area. According to the preview, the open-ness of the level allowed the player to take on the sites in any style they might want. Escalation wasn’t far behind, however, with the player then being tasked with taking on a host of enemies and getting into a firefight across a dam.

Battlefield 6 is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on October 10. For more details, here is everything you need to know.
