Developer Saber Interactive has confirmed that third-person action game Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 now has official mod support. As caught by Insider Gaming, game director Dmitry Grigorenko confirmed mod support for the game on a Discord server dedicated to modding Space Marine 2.
In his statement, Grigorenko has confirmed that the Integration Studio – the tool used for mod creation – is the same tool used internally at the studio for gameplay development. He has also referred to the addition of mod support for Space Marine 2 as the studio’s “biggest milestone yet” when it comes to supporting the game’s community.
“Today marks our biggest milestone yet in supporting the modding community,” wrote Grigorenko on the Discord. “Even the model exporter and 12-player co-op ops pale in comparison — because as of today, we’re releasing the official Integration Studio for public use. This is the exact same editor we use internally for all gameplay development. No more editing files in Notepad and praying you didn’t miss a bracket — Integration Studio makes editing anything SSL-related ten times faster, safer, and more intuitive.”
In discussing the power of Integration Studio, Grigorenko also mentioned that modders will be able to create a wide variety of mods, including entirely new cinematic campaigns, and even new game modes. “We’re excited to see what you build next — whether it’s a cinematic campaign, wild new game mode, or something we never saw coming,” he said.
Along with this, he also teased the addition of a new minigame, dubbed Fishing With Daddy Calgar, to Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. While details about the minigame haven’t yet been revealed the name indicates that it will likely be a more comedic take on a typical fishing minigame we see in other titles, complete with allowing the players to hang out with Ultramarine chapter master Marneus Calgar.
Currently, Saber Interactive is hard at work for the next major update to Space Marine 2. One of the big additions to the game in the update will be what the studio refers to as Codename: Horde Mode. The studio had teased the addition of the new game mode earlier this month with a post on the game’s official forums. The mode will be a PvE experience for up to three players in co-op.
The studio has also confirmed that players will be able to take on the Horde mode solo, accompanied by a pair of bots like in the game’s other PvE game modes. Players will have to fight off hordes of enemies comprised of both Tyranids as well as the warriors of Chaos. Beating each wave will up the difficulty, and players will have be able to use classes and equipment based on their levels in the Operations PvE mode. The first map teased for Horde mode is set in Kadaku.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Along with a campaign that can be played solo or with two other players in co-op, the game also features a separate 3-player co-op mode dubbed Operations, as well as a 6-on-6 PvP mode where players can take each other on various arenas created specially for the mode.
