Since the development of the original Death Stranding, director Hideo Kojima has been happily inviting celebrities over to Kojima Productions to scan them so that they can show up in the game as various characters. With the upcoming Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, however, Kojima has said that he has had to turn away quite a few people who wanted to appear in the game as well.
As caught by X user Genki_JPN, Kojima said in a recent episode of his radio show that he had to turn down half of all the people that wanted to be scanned to show up in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. He also revealed that a few of the celebrities that will be making cameos in the title as preppers will be shown off in the launch trailer leading up to the game’s release.
Kojima has also said revealed that it takes around 15 minutes to scan a single person so that they can show up in the game as a prepper. As for whether he himself will show up in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, he isn’t quite sure yet. Kojima said in the radio show that he didn’t want to scan himself for the sequel, and might ultimately not show up in the game at all.
Interestingly Kojima has a history of making random cameos in some of his games, including PSP title Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and even Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. Kojima has also shown up in other titles, including CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077, where he can be seen in the hotel lobby of one of the earlier parts of the open-world action RPG.
Aside from showing off some of the celebrity cameos from Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Kojima has also said that the launch trailer will feature “a lot” of new details that fans can discover and theorise over before playing the game. The trailer is expected to be on the shorter side when it comes to length, however, at least when compared to other trailers for the game so far.
More recently, Japanese fans have discovered a guerrilla marketing campaign being held by Kojima Productions that involves pocket tissues being handed out. These tissues, according to fans on Reddit, have a QR code that, when scanned, takes the viewer to a mysterious video on the official website for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. The video has been titled “Prepper Awaiting Porter”, and comes in at 40 seconds.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is coming to PS5 on June 26. The game will also include Quality and Performance modes depending on whether the player prefers a smoother frame rate or more detailed visuals. The Performance mode is reported as running at 60 frames per second while giving the game a slight hit when it comes to its visuals. The Quality mode, on the other hand, runs the title at 30 frames per second, but at higher resolutions and greater visual fidelity.
