Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Titles Reportedly Have Separate Download Codes for Upgrades

Among many things, Nintendo has generated controversy for revealing new Game-Key Cards for the Switch 2. The cartridges essentially serve as keys for downloading a game and must be inserted at all times to play a game.

If that doesn’t sound convoluted, a Nintendo UK support representative reportedly revealed to Does It Play on Twitter that Switch 2 “enhanced” versions of existing Switch games aren’t included on the physical carts. Instead, they include separate codes for downloading the upgrades. Nintendo hasn’t officially confirmed this information so it’s unknown whether the representative made a mistake.

However, as one user pointed out, this practice may be in place so that anyone who buys a used copy of these enhanced games will need to purchase the upgrade packs separately. Or subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack (at least for two games).

Stay tuned for more details and potential confirmation. The Nintendo Switch 2 launches on June 5th, though pre-orders have been delayed due to recent US tariffs.
